When I started reading about the Sony Xperia Z Ultra, I thought to myself, this is one feature-packed powerful phone. There’s a lot to say about it that I don’t know where to start. Anyway, let’s try.
The Xperia Z Ultra is Sony’s largest phone with its 6.4-inch display. Not any ordinary display but this one has a Full HD resolution and uses Sony’s latest and unique TRILUMINOS display for mobile. You got to hand it to Sony for putting new technology from their TVs and digital cameras into their mobile devices.
The Full HD display also features X-Reality for mobile which is Sony’s intelligent display software that analyzes each image and reproduces lacking pixels to optimize quality for the sharpest videos.
At 212 grams, it’s not exactly lightweight but it doesn’t look heavy with its 6.5mm-thin body. The front and back are made of tempered glass giving it a seamless surface with the OptiContrast panel housed in a solid metal frame. It has the same OmniBalance design seen on the gorgeous Xperia Z and Tablet Z. With that body, the Xperia Z Ultra is also durable having an IP55 and IP58 rating making it dust-resistant and waterproof up to 1 meter.
The display glass is scratch-resistant yet super responsive that Sony lets you use any pencil as a stylus for it. Or you can use any metal pen with a tip diameter of over 1mm as your stylus. These makeshift stylus will work with its handwriting recognition software.
Powering this device is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 and its quad-core processor clocking in at 2.2GHz. The chip supports HD voice which works well with Sony’s ClearAudio+ mode and Xloud sound enhancement. It also has a 2GB RAM with 16GB internal storage plus a microSD slot.
There’s an 8-megapixel rear camera that can do HDR photos and videos, and a 2-megapixel front camera that allows for Full HD recording. This phone also supports LTE, NFC, and MHL. It also has a non-removable 3050mAh battery and comes in Black, White, and Purple.
So what do you think? Impressed? According to Sony Philippines, the Xperia Z Ultra will come in an HSPA version and an LTE one. The HSPA version will arrive first but in limited quantity around mid-August until end of September and will have an estimated price of Php33,490. The LTE version is expected to arrive by October with an estimated price of Php35,990.
Given the design, features, materials used, and specs, I think the price is warranted. The question now is, will you wait for the LTE version or go ahead and get the HSPA one?
