Nokia just launched their next flagship phone, the successor to the Lumia 920, which is the thinner and lighter Lumia 925. This phone is almost the same as the Lumia 920 in specs but is enclosed in a sleeker body.
We’ve played with the Lumia 920 before and it was one of the bulkiest phone I’ve used in a long time. Holding the Lumia 925 was a welcome change and reminded me of the slimness of the Lumia 720 but with a bigger display. It also looks beautiful with its polycarbonate unibody enclosed in an aluminum frame to add a another texture to the phone and improve the antenna even more.
Contributing to the phones thinness is the removal of the wireless charging component inside. What you can do, however, is purchase the a case accessory to give your phone wireless charging capabilities.
It has the same 4.5-inch display size with HD resolution as that of the Lumia 920 but now it uses an AMOLED screen protected by Gorilla Glass 2. Powering the Lumia 925 is still the same 1.5GHz dual-core Krait processor from a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chip. What’s different now is the slightly lower 16GB internal storage compared to the 32GB of the Lumia 920. That can be a dealbreaker to some people considering this phone doesn’t have a microSD slot. Battery is still rated at 2000mAh and non-removable.
The camera has somewhat changed as well with the Lumia 925 employing a 6-lens system with Nokia’s PureView Technology on its Carl Zeiss optics. We tried the camera in a dim setting and it was still quick to focus and take a shot with really good quality. Quite impressive under low-light condition.
This phone is also the first device to get Nokia’s Amber update which gets the Smart Camera software among other things. You can take 10 quick shots in succession (compared to 5 from current Lumia phones) for you to play with its five features – Best Shot, Action Shot, Motion Shot, and Object Remover. HERE maps also got an update utilizing Livesight so your maps now has augmented reality.
The Nokia Lumia 925 will be exclusive to Smart for the first month and is free at Plan 1500 where you can take advantage of Smart’s LTE network. Pre-order is ongoing with units expected to arrive on August 19th. After a month, it will be available in Nokia stores for Php23,500.
