HTC officially unveils the One, high-end phone with 4-ultrapixel camera

HTC officially unveiled their latest premium handset, the HTC One, the mother of all previous One series phones, and this one looks like a real masterpiece coming from HTC.
HTC One
The HTC One is an all aluminum affair on a unibody chassis with a 4.7-inch Super LCD 3 display with a Full HD resolution for a best in class 468 ppi pixel density. It’s the current title holder when it comes to pixel density for current announced/available consumer devices. It is 9.3mm thick and its chiseled sides and metallic back reminds me of the iPhone 5 but with a slightly curved form for better handling. Two speaker strips on both ends of its screen suggests that this phone is also a multimedia beast on its own.
The new One uses the latest quad-core chip from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 600 which has 1.7GHz on each core. Initial Quadrant benchmark brings this phone to the 12,000+ score beating current quad-cores by a huge margin. It also comes with 2GB RAM and will be available in 32GB and 64GB version with no microSD support.

So what’s with the ultrapixel? A high-megapixel count is practically useless in most mobile cameras so HTC decided to improve on the One’s sensor instead. According to Mike Woodward, president of HTC America, an ultrapixel is twice the size of a megapixel and its 4-ultrapixel BSI sensor can capture 300% more light than any mobile phone cameras around. The One also uses a new ImageSense system, a new ImageChip 2 hardware on an f/2.0 lens. Really curious how this new camera tech pans out in actual usage. The 2.1-megapixel front camera is no slouch either as it can also record 1080p videos and has an 88-degree wide-angle lens.
The HTC One doesn’t lack on connectivity either as it is equipped with both NFC and LTE radio. Even the transparent Power/Lock button also doubles as an IR transmitter allowing you to control your home appliances. There’s also a non-replaceable 2300 mAh battery powering the unit which is far more than the 2020 mAh of the recently launched HTC Butterfly.

No SRP yet for the the HTC One but it will be offered by 180 carriers in 80 countries over the next few months. We’ll keep you posted once we got word from HTC Philippines about its local availability.
HTC came out really strong to start the year (just like last year), but is it enough for them to catch up with mobile leaders Apple and Samsung? The HTC One may have a strong shot in propelling them back to the top if its marketed properly.
